Chicken Tacos Recipe
Chicken tacos are an authentic Mexican food that can be found at restaurants and taco stands all through out Texas and much of the American Southwest area. The traditional method involves the stewing of a freshly killed chicken in a large cauldron along with chili and fresh onions along with various other traditional ingredients. This version of chicken tacos can take two or more days to complete the cooking process. Although the taste is fantastic the time involved is not practical for most home cooking. I will give you chicken tacos recipe that can be completed in less than an hour and the taste is decent in comparison to the original with less ingredients and considerably less time.
Chicken Tacos Ingredients:
- 1-pound chicken breast
- 1 can chicken broth
- Flour tortilla
- 1 can commercial grade salsa
- 1-tablespoon oil
- Garlic powder to taste
- Cilantro to garnish, chopped
- Tomatoes, chopped
- Shredded cheese
- Salt to taste
Chicken Tacos Directions:
- Cut the chicken breasts into strips about 1-inch pieces.
- Prepare frying pan, heat oil over medium heat, brown the chicken breasts for each sides but don’t over caramelize.
- Drain the oil from the pan and return partially cooked chicken, add 1 can of chicken broth and simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes.
- After half of the chicken broth has evaporated, add the can of commercial grade salsa. (Use a good quality salsa one that you already enjoy the flavor of as this will be the dominant taste)
- Simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes or until the liquids are almost completely gone.
- Sprinkle the chopped cilantro and remove from the heat.
- Put the chicken mixture on the flour tortilla with chopped tomatoes, lettuce and shredded cheese.
- Now ready to serve. Enjoy Chicken Tacos!
